My goal is to help people lead active healthy lifestyles whatever their current situation is...
I began personal training over 20 years ago following a serious injury which curtailed my sporting career. Over the course of this duration I have always endeavoured to provide the highest level of service to each of my clients and ensure they get the most out of each session with me. I have worked with everyone from elite level athletes to people that simply want to exercise for enjoyment and health. My passion is helping and guiding people to enjoy exercise and the benefits it offers. Having worked within a health club setting and a 5 star hotel for 15 years I set up South Devon Fitness to offer high quality personal training for new and existing clients.
My areas of interest include running, weight loss, strength training and nutrition with the objective of helping people lead healthier lives. I have worked within many different fields including, alongside psychologists to enhance quality of life and motivation in patients and as part of a team providing therapy for runners. My experience also includes working with younger people as a football coach alongside former Arsenal coach and Plymouth Argyle manager Dave Smith for many years.
Skill and Knowledge
Following employment in a gym in 1999 I completed my first fitness instructors course. This was followed shortly afterwards with a qualification in nutrition and weight management. Several years later I completed a level 3 personal training course, however to ensure my skills were up to date I completed a 2nd personal training diploma in 2013. My skills and expertise which I have developed over many years of working with people and continued professional development enable me to offer relevant, effective and research based exercise programming. My philosophy is that to continue to be a proficient exercise professional it requires ongoing learning and a commitment to self development. It was this ethos which prompted me undertake a BSc in Sports rehabilitation and Sports therapy. I have been fascinated for many years about the link between exercise, injury and its affect on people leading fulfilling lives. Having completed an initial foundation degree, I am now in the progress of completing the full BSc award. I am therefore able to competently provide injury diagnosis & treatment, sports massage, dry needling, cupping, rehabiliitation and electrotherapy. My goals beyond gaining a degree are to complete an MSc in physiotherapy, exercise referral diploma and level 4 personal training with special populations diploma. I have also recently opened an injury clinic in Plymouth city centre to offer sports therapy and rehabilitation.
To ensure professional competence I am a member of the Sports Therapy Organisation (STO), all fitness courses I have completed are recognised by the Register of Exercise Professional (REPS). I am also fully insured, have an up to date first-aid qualification and a current advanced disclosure and barring service (DBS).
